WHY “WE THREE BEES”?

This will be short and sweet.

When the kids first moved in with me, I wanted to be consistent (spoiler: I still wasn’t), so I made a set of rules, gave them each a copy, and posted a copy on the fridge. They told friends and family about them. Copies were given to people who heard and liked them enough to want to use them in their homes. The response was so good that I’ve never changed them, and based on that, and our attachment to them, I’ll happily share.

The 7 Bees
In no particular order.

1 – BE RESPECTFUL.

Respect yourself. Respect others. Respect your surroundings.

2 – BE HONEST.

Lies always bring more trouble than the truth.

3 – BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.

Even when no one else does, you must.

4 – BE HAPPY.

No one else is responsible for your state of mind.

5 – BE ON YOUR BEST BEHAVIOR.

Act as if it matters, even when you know it doesn’t.

6 – BE SAFE.

No one else is responsible for your safety.

7 – BEFORE PLAY COMES WORK.

Work hard. Play harder. In that order.

I think I’d like to add an addendum to the last one regarding work-life balance, physical and mental health, etc. Actually, I think I’d now prefer that it read as follows:

7 – BE RESPONSIBLE.

Take care of your mental, physical, and financial health, as well as anyone’s who depends on you. In that order.

I’d probably also change the title as below:

The 7 Bees
The most important is last.
